In France, be careful on Sundays and Mondays, as many shops close on these days. In Spain, be aware that during the Semana Santa (Holy Week -Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday), many shops/businesses etc. will be closed throughout the week.
On the Camino Francés, «pilgrim menus» are frequently offered.
On both sides of the Pyrenees, some gîtes offer a picnic or a snack but it is more prudent to always carry water and something to eat with you.
Good and bad surprises : some hosts give you croissants free, others make you pay for bread…
