Means of transport

Try, as far as possible, to use public transport to get to the starting point of your journey and for your return.

For information about timetables, tariffs, specific access to the places you wish to get to, for either the outward or return journey, you'll find pointers below which will help you to find the info you need. You can also contact travel agencies directly.

By train

In France, the SNCF : information and reservation on https://www.oui.sncf/
In Spain, the RENFE : information and reservation on www.renfe.com

In Santiago de Compostela, the Coach/bus station is in Rua San Caetano. Long-distance routes serve Spain, France, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium. There is also a link to Padron or Fisterra.

By plane

Compostela airport is in Lavacolla (10kms from the centre of Santiago de Compostela). Shuttle buses run every 30 to 40 mins. from Santiago town centre to the airport.

By bus/coach

Information about bus/coach services linking the big cities in France are available from coach stations or travel agencies.

Information about local public transport is available from Tourist Offices or Town Halls (Mairies).

Outward and return by bus from/to Saint-Jean Pied de Port

 By bike

If you want to return home without pedalling, consider finding out about the possible ways of getting your bike back to your starting point.

In France, the SNCF has a website dedicated to the transport of bikes : www.sncf.com/fr/services/sncf-velo

For those thinking of taking a bus/coach, the Flixbus company allows bikes to be carried on their coaches.

In Spain, Correos España sends bikes back to France from Santiago de Compostela. Contact the Bureau du Pèlerin or go to 4, rue du Franco (150 m. from the cathedral). Bikes are packaged up and sent for about 80 €.
